In this week’s Tip of the Week, Steve from Rivera Plumbing shares an important reminder for every homeowner. Knowing where your water meter is and how to turn it off can save you from serious damage in an emergency. Here’s what you need to know.
Hey guys, welcome to the end of another fantastic week. Hope you're all geared up for a great weekend. I know I am.
I've got a tip of the week for you. This week's one is a little bit of a doozy. Just imagine something's gone pear-shaped and you've got to turn your water off real quick.
So what do you do? Do you know where your water meter is? I mean, do you really know where it is? Do you know how to turn it off? Can you turn it off? Is it serviceable? Well, let's go take a look and see if we can find this week's water meter. Found it. There it is.
That's a water meter. That's an Australian water meter. That's what they look like. That's what they sound like.
This one's got a quarter turn valve on it. That's on. That's off. Actually works quite well, this one.
This water meter doesn't have any pressure protection, but that's okay. We can sort that out. Water's back on now.
Sometimes there's a T-handle there. Sometimes there's another quarter turn valve. Sometimes the T-handle's been hit by the mower and she's an absolute mess.
But hey, if you don't know where your meter is, I'd suggest you take a look outside and work it out.
Have a great weekend. See us around town.
